Randy’s Recommendations

Optics/Iron Sights
Pistol Optics

Cyelee Chameleon use code “RANDY”

It’s an amazing option if you have astigmatism and it is a very budget friendly RMR footprint and a large window like the SRO

The Holosun EPS is an enclosed pistol optic, it has a great track record and various reticle options but I prefer the 6 MOA EPS, you can find it HERE

One thing to note is this does use an EPS footprint rather than an RMR or K footprint.

The Cyelee Wolf EDG is and enclosed optic with an RMR foot print and a 3 moa dot. This thing is ultra-durable, however it does not utilize the STIG-RS reticle that the Chameleon does for astigmatism clarity.

Look, I have had plenty of holosun’s and I think once I get my astigmatism squared away I may try them again on a few guns. I prefer them over the vortex stuff, I think they are more durable and a solid brand on this point. You can’t really go wrong with them, not a big fan of the SCS though.

Rifle Optics

The Holosun AEMS, now they have expanded but I have been using the original AEMS for a while now. I would recommend honestly any of the Holosun Rifle Dots. I am looking at trying the ARO and ARO EVO as well because I prefer the tube instead of the box. I am a big fan of the 403R, but those have been replaced by the ARO.

The tried and true Trijicon Acog, at one point I owend 4 of these and got rid of them on a whim and regret it to this day. The glass is clear, the eye box is great, and the illlumination is easily controlled with a piece of tape. I honestly prefer these over LPVO’s typically. Really big fan of the horsehoe/dot reticles or the crosshair variants instead of the chevrons

Iron sights

These are my favorite iron sights by far, you can order them as tall as you prefer, and with a width/notch that you would prefer as well. These are fiberoptic sights and they really glow well.

XS Big Dots take a little different approach to iron sights, rather than a notched rear sight, it utilizes a low rear sight and a big dot front sights that sits above a reference point on the rear. These dots point really well and still can be pretty precise when used properly.

Night Fision is the brand I recommend if someone wants a traditional “night sight” set of irons

Favorite AR Accessories
Rail Panels

Walker Defense Research Nile Rail Panels (Use code “Randy” for 15% off)

These are a great items to add to mlok slots they offer a grippy silicon carbide inlay

Grip

I really love the Irregular Defense Special K Grips. They offer great angles and are really ergonomic. The grip texture is very aggressive I typcically sand them just a little to reduce the aggressiveness.

Slings

Blue Force Gear has always been a really great brand for slings. I also recommend pairing these with the Uloop Sling Attachment System

Where do I buy guns from?
Belts/Competition Gear

This belt is an absolute game changer and probably the best belt for competition on the market. It uses plastic links so you can make this as big as you need to, and adjust it if things change instead of having to buy a whole new belt. I also use the DAA pouches on this.

Rifle Lights
  • Arisaka Lights (My Favorite)
    • My favorite lights, on the Arisaka website you can build out your complete light. Choose the head that best fits your needs, preferred switches and these are still reasonably priced. very streamlined, great mounts, and overall my favorite
  • Streamlight Pro Tac HP-X Pro
    • Great performance with an even better price. This light is by far the best value, the only con for me is the switch it uses and the bulkiness of it.
  • Surefire M640DFT-PRO Turbo Scout Light Pro
    • Getting the turbos and now with dual fuel options this is one of the best lights, but you definitely pay a premium for it.
Pistol Lights
  • Holosun PID
    • These are good light with great switches, rechargable and solid. The only con I would say for these is holster options are less than the Streamlight and Surefire options
  • Surefire X300
    • The x300 is the old warhorse of weapon lights. There are a ton of holster options for this and it is very rugged. Avoid the rail lock detachment version of this light and use the thumbscrew one.
  • Streamlight TLR Series (MY FAVORITE)
    • I am not a fan of the old style switches on the TLR series but since they made press/click ones I am more of a fan. The TLR 7 is a great option for compact pistols. The TLR-1 HP-X is my top choice
EDC Lights
Handgun Grips

DEFGRIPS (USE CODE “randy5”) have become my primary grips on my handguns now as they are very comfortable for carrying concealed but also tacky enough that they can be used in competition, and they will not chew up your shirts or your hands, they are a real game changer.

Bags

Eberlestock has always been my go to for bags they are pretty pricey but also “buy it for life” level bags. I have had my Bang Bang Range bag for 13 years now I believe and it is nearly bomb proof, it looks brand new yet except where i burned it with a suppressor. This bag has been thrown around and rough handled for 13 years, and there is minimal wear.

Holsters/Holster Accessories

My favorite holsters hands down, I use these holsters for competition, and for EDC. I strongly recommend ordering them with the DCC Monoblock for IWB clips.

There are a few cushions/pads out there like this, but this one has been the most comfy and durable. When combined with the JM Custom Kydex IWB holster this holster you don’t really notice because of the soft cushion.

Optics Plates

Arise Mfg use code “RANDY”

I use their Aegis Plate system which does fit over the Cyelee Chameleon, but they also offer low rider plates for several popular pistol brands.

Ammo
Range Ammo

Currently there are a few different ammo companies I use right now and they are:

Carry/Defensive Ammo

For Carry and Defensive Ammo I recommend Solid Copper, Solid Copper Expanders, and Bonded Bullets

Pistol Caliber:

Tools

To me this is a must have tool for all firearms owners especially if you are using optics. This allows you to set the torque of your driver to the correct in/lbs when mounting red dots, optics, and lights.

This is a bit overkill tbh, everyone should have some sort of bench vise. This one is just designed specifically for firearms and has a lot of nice features. It is pricey, I paid full price for mine and absolutely love it. Either way get a bench vise.

Other Tools

The other tools I recommend you getting are:

  • Quality Bit Set
  • Gunsmith’s Nylon/Brass Hammer
  • Pin Set
  • A driver that is not a torque one as well to loosen things

I typically buy from a few brands:

Range Gear/PPE

I just typically recommend an over the ear electronic ear pro with the gel cups for a better seal. I am currently using the savior equipment apollo’s, PSA was handing these out at the gathering a few years ago for buying a ticket, and I have been using them since. Very comfortable, and good protection.

Eyepro

Getting eyepro that fits you preferably safety rated. There are some fancy options out there. More to come as I am trying some new ones out myself.

I don’t care which ones you get, but if you shoot often you should have some of these in your range bag. Just as a precautionary measure for your health, having lead wipes on you so that you can remove the metals prior to eating, drinking, or rubbing your eyes. I currently use the Breakthrough Lead Wipes.

I am currently using the Shooter’s Global 2 but there are plenty of other decent ones, the Shooter’s Global 2 is like the cadillac of the shot timers. It has the ability to connect to your phone to film with shot times, and all sorts of bells and whistles. Basic shot timers are fine though as well.
