Why I am not buying the Glock Gen 6

,

So back in glocktober I purchased 5 Glock gen 5 guns. They included the Glock 45, 17, 17L MOS, and two 47 MOS guns. I have been using them alot and actually really enjoying them and the platform again. Between flat range, edc, and competition I really enjoy using these across the whole gambit.

Enter the Glock Gen 6….

With the Glock gen 6 they promised a few things:

  • Improved Ergos
  • Better Optics Mount
  • Improved Trigger

These all proved to be somewhat true but also not to the extent we had hoped. The ergos included an undercut, palm swells, and a new grip texture. The grip texture feels better but still doesn’t exceed the benefits of stick on grips or grip tape.

The optics mount is improved by deeper screw allowances, and a universal optics system that includes plastic shims to accommodate different footprints. Unfortunately, I talked to the folks at Arise Mfg about this and they said they were creating plates because there were still some downfalls of the new system, after seeing it I would agree. Between plastic shims and a rear opening would potentially allow this to shift and shear things off. Meaning that for ideal optics mounting you will still be using an aftermarket optics system.

The improved trigger seems to be a false statement as well. I had the opportunity to handle a gen 6 at my local gun shop. While the trigger shape feels slightly different it is barely noticeable, and the trigger pull feels identical to the gen 5.

Lastly, I have seen reports of gen 6 glocks either having something of a break in period or some trigger reset issues…

With all of these things combined I think if you currently have a gen 5 Glock that the Gen 6 is not an upgrade and should likely not be purchased.

TLDR: Don’t buy a gen 6 unless you don’t have optic cut gen 5’s
